Bleacher Safety

Bleacher safety should be emphasized.

Increased emphasis on bleacher safety often walks hand in hand with reducing bleacher repairs.

That boy climbing on the bleachers can cause as much damage as Mayhem in the insurance commercials.  Standing on the closed bleachers causes the unsupported front of the bleachers to bend down resulting in compression.  Compression makes your bleachers hard to open and can wear out expensive power units that work too hard.  To save the stress on the bleachers and spare you from replacing your drive units, compression needs to be relieved.  When your bleachers are starting to lag, that’s the time to call American Athletix and, by the way, don’t let people climb on them this way.

Lack of emphasis on bleacher safety results in broken bones, concussions and even death.  For more tips on protecting the spectators in your bleachers contact American Athletix for a bleacher safety checklist.

Do not climb signs on bleachers will help reduce incidents like we see in this picture. If students are going to be encouraged to climb, they should be directed to proper apparatus and subject to adequate padding and other safety measures.

An American Athletix gymnasium safety inspection will provide suggestions to make gyms, in general, safer and, in many cases, specific bleacher safety steps that should be given immediate serious consideration.
